In a sport that celebrates the endeavours and performance of the individual, Phil is a Commonwealth 400m Bronze medalist and UK 400m record holder. It was however in the relay and the “knack” of securing medals on the Anchor Leg that people remember Phil for and so it was, at the LA84 Games that the team secured an Olympic Silver Medal that earned him the street sign name, "Phil Brown Place" in Lambeth.
Phil retired from World Class Athletics in the early 90s and embarked upon a new career as a Development Worker for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. He was soon promoted to Regional Director for the East Midlands serving 17,000 young people in 1996 and by 2010, he became Director for Central England enriching the lives of 48,000 participants with 1000 young people attending Gold Award Ceremonies at St James Palace each year.
After 25 years of loyal service, Phil has moved on and is the founder of the not-for-profit company Champions Realm Limited. It was created to help schools build resilience in their pupils; support and enrich the lives pupils and their families and engage in projects that support the communities in which they live.
He is an accomplished speaker and is as comfortable speaking to small audiences, as well as at larger events like Gold Award Celebrations at St James Palace.
