Sarah Corbett

Helping us all be good global citizens and the change we wish to see in the world in a creative, kind and fair way.

Sarah Corbett is the Founder of Craftivist Collective, a global social enteprise providing innovative craftivism (craft + activism) products & services to individuals & organisations around the world using craft a tool for slow, gentle, beautiful, kind & intriguing activism - helping people of all ages be the best global citizen they can be. She also uses craft as tool to reflect on how to make society and individuals flourish - she calls this 'well making'.

Sarah Corbett has worked as a professional campaigner for 8 years most recently with Oxfam. She started doing craftivism (craft + activism) in 2008 as a reaction to traditional aggressive or quick forms of activism. Due to high demand, Sarah set up the global Craftivist Collective in 2009 which now has thousands of supporters across the world taking part in her craftivism projects. One of the leading spokespeople in the craftivism movement and author of 'A Little Book of Craftivism', she works with art institutions, universities and charities around the world to do and teach effective activism through craft helping extend the Craftivist Collective’s reach beyond the normal bounds of activism.

Sarah has created projects, exhibitions and high profile collaborations with the likes of Unicef, Save the Children, Tatty Devine, V&A, Secret Cinema, Ben and Jerry's ice cream, Bauhaus University and many others. She has spoken and delivered workshops at many youth events including Girl Guiding festival, World Aims Weekend and Global Student Forum. Currently, Sarah is writing an in-depth book "How To Be A Craftivist: the art of gentle protest" out October 2017 with Penguin Random House. Her exhibition "Gentle Protest" has also been exhibited in Stockholm and Helsinki Design Week hosted by The Finnish Crafts Organisation September 2016.

Testimonials from Teachers

"Sarah's talk and bespoke workshop created the perfect forum for young people to really engage with an issue. And unlike other forms of activism, it created a safe environment for staff and students to relate to one another about a pressing issue and reflect before reacting, the actual process requires and provides real thinking time allowing all involved to channel their voice through their own unique creativity."

– Sarah Nuzum, Global Education Project Manager, World Aims

"I strongly recommend engaging Sarah Corbett to speak on behalf of the Craftivist Collective. Her presentation is inspiring and informative - it's an important method and approach to integrate into a program concerned with Design & Social Justice. I am working on inviting her back to Parsons - this time to lead a hands-on workshop!"

– Jane Pirone, Dean, School of Design Strategies at Parsons School of Design, New York
